Lists, labels and search

How lists work, notebooks, labels, and search.

How lists work

Everything you write is kept in one place. A list shows everything with a particular label, and every list’s name works as a label too. One task can be in several lists, and deleting a list leaves its tasks where they were, labels and all.

There are four kinds. A notebook holds pages of notes and writing. A file collects things over time, like tasks, papers and people. A binder keeps chapters in an order you choose and exports them as one document. A shelf keeps binders and reference material together.

You can turn a file into a case file in its settings. It then shows everything in it as a dated record, oldest first, and exports as a clean copy you can give to anyone who asks for one.

Notebooks

On the iPhone, the Notebooks tab opens a blank page in Notes, or the page you already wrote on today. Tapping the notebook’s name at the top of a page lets you move the page to another notebook, so you can start any quick note in Notes and file it later.

Labels

A new account starts with five labels: home, work, family, money and shopping. Each label and list has a few words that go with it, and you can change them in the list’s settings or in Settings → Labels. A word has to match whole or as a plural, so “vet” won’t match “veteran.” Deleting a label takes it off every task.

Search

Search looks through your words, handwriting on an iPad, and the text inside documents you’ve added. Under NEARLY it shows words that are a letter or two off, and it ignores spaces, so “her era” finds “Herrera.” If you open search from a notebook or a binder, it looks there first.

Search runs on your device.
