Today and your tasks
Choosing by how long things take, keeping a task on top, the lock screen, ticking off, subtasks, and the trash.
Choosing a task
Today shows one pile at a time. There’s one for each length (about 10 minutes, about 30, and an hour or more) and one called new for whatever you wrote today.
Swipe the top card left or right to get to the next one. Maitland doesn’t keep track of the ones you pass. When a pile runs out, the next pile starts.
Keeping a task on top
To keep a task in front of you, press and hold its card and choose Keep on top. It stays above everything else on Today until you tick it off or put it back. You can keep more than one and swipe through them.
They can go on your lock screen too, if you turn on Settings → General → THE CARD KEPT ON TOP. The Did it and Put it back buttons there work without unlocking your phone.
Ticking off
After you tick a task, it waits about a second before it goes, so you can tap again if you didn’t mean it. Later on, you can bring it back with not done yet in Completed, next to Tasks.
Subtasks
On the iPhone you can reorder subtasks by pressing and holding one and dragging it. To make a task you already have into a subtask of another, open it and type the other task’s name in its Part of row.
The Tasks list
Pulling down past the top of Tasks opens search. Any headings you fold open again the next morning.
The trash
The trash never empties itself and can’t be emptied, so whatever you trash can be put back. On the iPhone it’s in the side menu. If you clear every word off a notebook page, the page goes to the trash when you leave it.
There’s no trash screen on the web. Things you trash there show up in the iPhone’s trash after it syncs.
On the web
The web app doesn’t have piles to swipe or press and hold. Click a length to see all its tasks. What you wrote today is listed under new, and sort this and send to… are inside an open task.
